Curriculum Overview

At Brandon Primary Academy, we have developed a curriculum based on the needs of our children. Our curriculum is ambitious for all and we hold high academic and personal aspirations at the heart of what we do. We want our children to be driven by a desire to have a deep knowledge of the world in which they live, an awareness of the possibilities open to them and have high aspirations which will lead to positive outcomes in their future lives.

Our curriculum is planned and sequenced so that new knowledge builds on what has been taught before, and towards clearly defined end points. When designing our curriculum, we have taken account of the findings of cognitive science which identifies the importance of concepts, sequencing and spaced repetition over time in order for children to retain learning in long term memory.  As children revisit and build upon these concepts, they have the opportunity to make connections in their learning resulting in rich, deep learning that is transferable.

Our curriculum is underpinned by our core values of:

Ready

Respectful

Safe

Believe

Achieve

Succeed

Inspire

It is important to us that our curriculum both explicitly and implicitly develops these values so that they are meaningful to our children and so they can see how they affect their daily and future lives.

Reading and Phonics

At Brandon Primary Academy we firmly believe that excellent phonics teaching is at the heart of successful Early English experiences. We have undertaken substantial investment in terms of staff training in order to ensure all staff have a thorough understanding of the role synthetic phonics plays in teaching children to read and write. Find out more about our approach to Reading and Phonics on our website.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Brandon Primary Academy, we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. Further information can be found in the SEND Information Report.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.

Remote Learning

In the event that school or classes go back to remote learning, our Remote Learning Policy will be followed with live lessons and children’s work being uploaded to their Teams accounts each day. Printed work packs will be made to accompany lessons and devices will be made available to children who don’t have access at home. Please see our School Policies section of our website for the Remote Learning Policy.
